the governing body nor does the Home Rule Charter give him authority to do so as Mayor.
Any individual has the right to express their personal opinions on any matter. For this reason, we would like to clarify that the recent public statements and comments made by Mayor Harold R. Magill concerning the City Attorney and City Manager are solely his personal comments and/or statements NOT that of the governing body.
Based on the facts that have been presented to the Mayor and City Council to date, the City Council (excluding Mayor Harold R. Magill) is satisfied that there has been no cover-up or misconduct by the City Attorney and/or the City Manager. As has been repeatedly stated, the matter given rise to the situation is being investigated by the appropriate law enforcement officials not associated with the City of Seagoville. Should the investigation reveal any cover-up or misconduct by anyone the appropriate action will be taken at that time.
With regard to the public information request which was the recent topic of a news report on March 12th Councilmember Terri Ashmore, provides the following statement: “Contrary to Magill's statement made during a recent news broadcast, the open records requested from Magill were, in no way, retaliation for previous allegations made to the media regarding a cover-up by City staff. City Attorney Bob Hager did not instruct or advise me to request these records nor did he have any involvement in drafting the open records request.
Magill has made statements both to me and others, that he is in possession of documentation proving City staff's involvement with what he terms as 'a cover-up'. The open records request was made by me as a private citizen of Seagoville to compel Magill to bring any records forward so they may be handed over to the proper authorities to assist in their investigation."
