On August 10, 2009, City Manager Denny Wheat received confirmation from the Insurance Services Office in Austin, Texas that the City's ISO rating improved from an ISO-5 rating to an ISO-3 rating. The ISO-3 rating will take effect on January 1, 2010. ISO statistics show that only 2.6% of cities in the nation receive an ISO-3 ranking. This will mean approximately 6.7% savings on a citizens homeowners insurance policy. On a $100,000 home, the homeowner’s insurance policy would be approximately $1500. This would be a savings of $100 annually. This $100 savings would be equivalent to lowering a citizen’s taxes by 10 cents per $100 evaluation. The ongoing Water Capital Improvement Projects, improvement in fire department equipment, manpower, inspections, training, and also improvements in the Communication department is what has made it possible to achieve this improved rating. Citizens can contact their insurance companies after January 1, 2010 to see how it will affect them personally.
