[ARCHIVED] News Release - City Council Adopts Ordinance to Reduce Residential Speed Limits

On Monday, January 28, 2018, the Seagoville City Council adopted a new residential speed limit of 25 miles per hour.  City staff will be replacing residential speed limit signs over the next two months with new 25 mph speed limit signs.  This change in residential speed limits came about after numerous complaints of vehicles speeding in residential areas and safety concerns for pedestrian traffic. The intent of the new speed limit is to hopefully alert drivers to slow down in residential areas.  This is a quality of life and a public safety measure said City Manager Pat Stallings.

Last month the City Council adopted a Traffic Calming Policy that allows for multiple traffic calming approaches to reducing speeding in residential areas including the installation of speed humps and stop signs.

A copy of the City’s new Traffic Calming Policy and Residential Speed Limit Ordinance can be found on the City’s web-page.  Anyone with questions concerning the reduced residential speed limit or the Traffic Calming Policy are encouraged to contact the City Manager at 972-287-6807.
