[ARCHIVED] Notice of Public Hearing on Tax Increase

The City of Seagoville, Texas will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by -1.6 percent ; (which will result in an assessment of an additional assessment of ($15.00 per $100 taxable value, under Chapter 26 of the Tax Code).

Your individual taxes may increase at a greater or lesser rate, or even decrease depending on the change in taxable value of your property in relation to the change in taxable value of all other property and the tax rate that is adopted.

These public hearings will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 7:30 p.m., and Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at Seagoville City Hall, Council Chambers, 702 N. Hwy 175 Seagoville, TX 75159

The members of the governing body voted on the proposal to consider the tax increase as follows:
FOR: Thompson, Magill, Landess, and Day,
AGAINST: None
PRESENT AND NOT VOTING: Sidney M. Sexton, Jr., Mayor
ABSENT: Polnac

2009 Tax Rate (Last Year’s Tax Rate)
The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Seagoville, Texas in 2009 was $83,151. Based on last year’s tax rate of $0.6500 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxed imposed last year on the average home was $540.48

2010 Tax Rate (This Year’s Tax Rate)

The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Seagoville, Texas in 2010 is $81,725

THE EFFECTIVE RATE
If the City Council had proposed adopting the effective tax rate for 2010 of $0.681528 per $100 of taxable value; the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $ 556.98.

THE PROPOSED RATE
If the City Council adopts the proposed tax rate of $0.6650 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home will be $543.47
