
About the Citizen Police Academy
This is a 12 week program that focuses to build an understanding between citizens and law enforcement officers who serve them. This overall course is directed to provide insight to the operations of the Seagoville Police Department and law enforcement philosophy, and to build relationships with the community we serve.
What topics are covered?
Classes provide an overview of relevant topics related to many aspects of law enforcement. Course topics include Patrol Operations, Criminal Investigations, Communications, Traffic Code, Accident Investigation, Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Municipal Court Operations, and the organizational structure of the Seagoville PD amongst others. Student participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a live scenario firearms simulator.
Who may attend?
Any interested citizen of Seagoville or person who works in Seagoville are encouraged to attend. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, not convicted of any felony, and not convicted of any class A misdemeanor, or of any class B misdemeanor within the past ten years, and has no history of crimes of moral turpitude. This course is free to the citizens of Seagoville.
When and where does the academy meet?
Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and are held in the training room of the Seagoville Police Department, 600 N US Highway 175. Food is provided by members of the Alumni Association.
After graduation…
Citizens have a better understanding of the scope of law enforcement and basic law enforcement principles.
You will have the opportunity to join the Seagoville Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association (SCPAAA) and contribute to community projects and events. Graduates can also move on to become a member of the Citizen’s on Patrol (COP) program.
