What is Code Enforcement?

Code Enforcement is the identification, investigation, and correction of unsafe, unsightly, or illegal conditions. Code Enforcement addresses building and property conditions to maintain the highest level of quality of life standards in the community. 

How does Code Enforcement work?

Code Enforcement Officers use known information about the city, referrals , and citizen complaints to learn about conditions.

Report a Concern

Once a concern is reported and logged it is routed to the appropriate Code Enforcement Officer.

Inspection

Code Officers visit properties to determine if a violation exists.

Different Stages of Violations

  • Notice of Violation - the purpose is to initiate contact and corrective action within a timely manner.
  • Notice of Citation - if no corrective action takes place a citation is filed with the Municipal Court.
  • Abatements and Liens - as a last resort in circumstances of non-compliance the violation is corrected at the expense of the property owner by a city contractor.

Resolution

If you are in violation, you will have to remedy the issue within the allotted time period. For extensions, contact the Code Enforcement Officer listed on the notice.
